Does Hypnosis Work On Everyone?

Does hypnosis really work? When the topic of hypnosis comes up in conversation, most people will conjure up a cliched image of a comedy hypnotist getting participants to do all manner of embarrassing things on stage.

So, it’s not surprising that many people are sceptical as to whether hypnosis can really be used to treat serious problems.

Forget the comedians! Hypnosis has been proven to successfully treat all manner of mental and physical illnesses.

In fact, hypnotherapy can help with pain management as well as helping people to overcome all sorts of deep-seated fears, long-term severe phobias as well as addictions.

How Does Hypnosis Work?

Hypnosis is generally used to change the way you perceive something.

Let’s take smoking as an example. If you are a smoker, you will generally equate the taste of tobacco and the effect of the nicotine with a feeling of pleasure.

This makes it very difficult to quit on your own because your body has been tricked into thinking that smoking is good for you.

Through the use of hypnosis however, a smoker can receive suggestions that alter their perception of smoking and lessen the pleasure they receive from a cigarette. This will help them overcome the addition more easily than pure willpower alone.

The Power of Suggestion

The power of suggestion is extremely effective, which is why hypnotherapy is used to treat a wide array of psychological issues.

When in a hypnotized state, discovering a condition’s underlying cause becomes easier because people are able to speak freely without their usual inhibitions and fears.

For example, some people subconsciously choose to forget an event or incident that happened in their past.

Such repression can result in all sorts of psychological problems and can keep them from understanding the root cause of some of their current issues.

Hypnosis does a good work in teasing out long-lost memories which can then help to identify appropriate treatments.

Many people who suffer from chronic pain develop tolerances to medication over time. They also put themselves at risk of developing an addiction to medication. When medication no longer works, hypnosis can provide a healthier alternative to mood-altering chemicals.

This is also applicable to those who suffer from extreme psychological conditions that are the result of personal tragedies, military service, or phobias. Hypnosis serves as a viable alternative to prescription medications as it can treat the symptoms of many physiological problems.

Will Hypnotherapy Work for Me?

That depends on you. You cannot be hypnotised if you don’t want to be, so you need to be open-minded when it comes to hypnotherapy. It’s not for everyone however and obviously there are certain limits to what it can do.

Be mindful that hypnotists (or even self-hypnosis MP3 downloads) can’t make you do anything you don’t want to. You will still retain full control of both your thoughts and body, but if you resist treatment, hypnotherapy will have little-to-no effect.

To determine if hypnosis will be suitable for you, consult your doctor. Go over all treatment options available and if you feel like trying hypnosis, schedule an appointment with a local practitioner.

If I Want to Know More about Hypnosis, Who Should I Talk To?

Stay away from mediums and psychics who claim they are experts at using hypnosis. Such people are likely expert at nothing more than taking your money (without helping you!)

That said, be open-minded about hypnosis and the benefits it has the potential to bring you.

Based on what you’re being hypnotized for, and how frequently you attend, 1-1 sessions can be pricey, but if they are a qualified professional it will likely be well worth the money!
